In a recent initiative to promote sustainability and raise awareness among the population, Trenitalia dressed two of its FLIRT train sets in green.
“For years, Trenitalia has engaged in projects that aim to guarantee and advocate sustainable living and economic activity throughout its entire business model,” as Roger Hopfinger, Manager of Public Transport in South Tyrol and Trentino at Trenitalia, explained. The aim, he continued, was to be a role model and create added value for the environment, our surroundings and customers – by providing information and raising awareness with the help of all partners involved.
At Trenitalia and its parent company FS, the national state-owned railway corporation, sustainability is a top priority that governs all decisions regarding rolling stock, the use of energy and materials, maintenance work and the choice of suppliers. And not without effect: Italy’s primary train operator has already received several awards at international level for its consistent commitment and successful efforts.
“Sustainability travels by train”
As ambassadors for more sustainability, two FLIRT trains clad in green can currently be spotted throughout South Tyrol and Trentino. Their message: Sustainability means choosing the train. After all, every single train passenger makes a significant contribution to reducing traffic and pollution affecting the environment.
Another important mission of the green FLIRT train: At the opening of the 2022 Sustainability Days in Bolzano/Bozen, it chauffeured a key delegation from the worlds of politics, mobility and business around Enrico Giovannini, the Italian Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, to the conference venue at Fiera Bolzano/Messe Bozen.
Did you know? Italy’s Frecciarossa 1000 fleet recently became the world’s first high-speed train to receive an award for protecting the environment: It consumes 30 % less energy than its predecessor and uses almost exclusively recyclable materials.
