Ticketing system and validation

A close-knit, synchronised network: public mobility in South Tyrol

In South Tyrol, public transport is organised as a single, large and interconnected network linked by urban buses, regional and Citybus services, regional trains, a number of cable-cars and a few more means of transport.

A standardised ticket and fare system applies throughout the entire public transport grid – with only a few exceptions.

Top tip: Mobile tickets are always a great solution! If you buy your tickets and check in online using the südtirolmobil app, you no longer need ticket machines or validation devices – you’ll already have a valid ticket in your pocket.

How can I pay cashless on the bus?

Ask the driver for a ticket for the desired route and, instead of paying in cash, simply hold your payment card close to the contactless display on the square ticket validator and collect your travel ticket.

Südtirol Pass post-paid or pre-paid, how does it work?

The post-paid Südtirol Pass is the most convenient and flexible option. Every two months you will receive an invoice showing the amount due for the journeys you have made. The amount will be debited directly from your bank account via a SEPA mandate.

If you opt for the pre-paid Südtirol Pass, you can top up your card in the following ways:

  •  With immediate creditAt ticket machines in railway stations, bus stations, regional buses, and service counters, except those of Trenitalia.
  • With credit after 24 hours up to a few days at ticket offices, ATMs and on our portal portal.suedtiromobil.info (by credit card, pagoPA or via online banking).

Ticket validation devices: how do I validate my ticket?

How do I validate my contactless ticket?

All tickets with the “contactless” symbol must be validated by approaching the sensor of the validating machine where the corresponding symbol is located. For those who prefer a smarter option, the südtirolmobil app allows you to validate your journey with a simple click.

It is now also possible to validate the transport of bicycles or pets at the new validating machines with the various Südtirol Passes.

How do I validate my ticket with a QR code?

The latest generation of validating machines with QR codes are now in use in stations and buses. Validation is simple: place the ticket at the bottom of the machine and wait for the green OK on the screen and the beep.

How do I validate the transport of my bicycle or pet?

With the new validating machines it is now possible to validate the transport of bicycles or pets with the different Südtirol Passes. We recommend that you purchase your bike or pet ticket (day pass for transporting bikes) directly online via the südtirolmobil app.
