With the “tap&go” service, you can pay for your journeys on urban buses directly on board using a credit or debit card (with online payment enabled), or even via your smartphone wallet.
This service has been introduced to make public transport in South Tyrol more accessible, particularly for occasional travellers. In fact, if you don't have a valid pass or ticket, you can simply pay for your journey on board using your Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card (American Express and Diners Club cards are not yet supported), so there's no need to buy one in advance.
The system is active on most of the urban buses in Bozen/Bolzano and Meran/Merano and is indicated by a sticker on the front door and graphics on the validation machines themselves. The plan is to extend the service to the entire fleet in circulation, including regional buses and railway stations.
How does tap&go work?
To use this contactless payment method, you just have to tap ACTIVATE on the screen of the validating machine and hold your card close to it when boarding the bus. A green OK indicates that the transaction was successful. When you arrive at your destination, simply tap again to end your journey. The cheapest fare will be automatically calculated and charged.
