According to a recent decision by the Provincial Government of South Tyrol, parking spaces at train stations will soon primarily benefit rail commuters.
The first stations to join the initiative will be the Mobility Centres in Bressanone/Brixen and Brunico/Bruneck, which are all set to open their doors in a few weeks’ time. From the summer of 2022, parking in the newly built Mobility Centre car parks will be subject to a charge. To Südtirol Pass holders, however, it might turn out to be free.
If you leave your car at the station car park and take a regional train from there, you can park for only a small fee – and if you return to that station on the same day, parking is free of charge. Plus, you can conveniently use your Südtirol Pass or Euregio Family Pass to pay and to open the barrier when entering and leaving the station.
How the parking fee is calculated
For Südtirol Pass holders, parking costs a maximum of 6 EUR per day. But, if you travel from and back to that same station on the same day on a regional train, the following amounts will be discounted from your parking fee – provided that you’re using your Südtirol Pass to pay for your train ticket:
- 3 EUR upon departure from the station of origin
- and another 3 EUR upon arrival at the station of origin.
In other words: Commuters get to park for absolutely free!
Park & Ride: add-on package
To use this additional service, Südtirol Pass holders can simply activate the Park & Ride package in their online user account within the Südtirol Pass portal. The only prerequisite is a Südtirol Pass or Euregio Family Pass on a post-paid contract using SEPA Direct Debit. Südtirol Pass abo+ and Südtirol Pass 65+ holders, too, can add the Park & Ride option – provided that they have a post-paid contract and activated the option to pay for additional services.
